Timing

This assessment is most helpful once a student has a working draft of their essay, even if the essay still feels incomplete or uncertain.

Availability

Because each essay is read carefully and the feedback is individualized, a limited number of essay assessments are available each month.

What This Is Not

This assessment is not:

• line-by-line editing or proofreading

• multiple rounds of revision

• ongoing essay coaching

• rewriting or restructuring the essay on the student’s behalf

Instead, the goal is to provide experienced perspective on the story the essay is telling, along with suggestions that help the student strengthen the narrative in their own voice.

College Essay Assessment

Sometimes a student’s main college essay could benefit from an experienced perspective before continuing.

This consultation is designed to help students clarify the story their essay is telling and identify ways to strengthen the narrative before moving forward with revisions.

Rather than focusing on line-by-line editing, this process helps students step back and understand what their essay is really communicating — and how the story can become clearer, more authentic, and more compelling.

This consultation includes:

Review of the student’s current essay draft

60-minute Zoom conversation to discuss the essay and explore ways the narrative could be strengthened

Written feedback/guidance identifying strengths, themes, and areas that may need clarification for next draft.

✔ One additional round of written feedback after the student submits a revised draft

This structure allows the student to revise the essay with clearer direction and then receive one additional round of perspective on the updated version.
